A Labour of Love

Ray and Ruth Mears

“Today is a very special day, my 5th Wedding Anniversary. Traditionally, gifts for this celebration are of wood, so I have carved a special gift for my darling wife. It was a joy to make, a labour of true love. Sitting, carving with axe and crooked knife, in the October sunshine that we have been blessed with, gave me time to reflect on how much she has enriched my life. We all need a soul mate for our journey through life’s wilderness.”

About Woodlore Limited

Woodlore, The School of Wilderness Bushcraft, was founded in 1983 by the British Bushcraft expert, Ray Mears. Paving the way for Bushcraft courses in the UK, Woodlore began with Ray teaching small groups of students the knowledge and techniques that he had spent most of his early life honing. With Ray’s ambition and perserverance, Woodlore has since grown into a world-renowned and highly respected school, offering in-depth courses on a wide range of bushcraft and survival subjects.

I want to thank you . I used to think pop stars and drug dealers were cool until I saw you on the tele, when I was about 14. I’d come home from hanging out with my friends and watch your shows, Ive been a fan ever since. You are the coolest dude I am aware of . I have learnt many things watching you over the years. I am so grateful you’re in the world and you’ve shared your knowledge with me and others. I just googled your name to see what you were up to at this current time and it led me here; to see you remarried and looking happy.I wish you and your wife all the happiness in the world .
I don’t know you of course but I feel like I know you do the world no unnecessary harm and I thank you for that Ray. I wish everyone was like you. You are my favourite person to watch and listen to (My second fav is George Jones – country singer- and, coincidently, I now ponder, like one of my favourite songs of his goes “who’s gonna fill their shoes”) There’s no one like you ray!
You’ve made a massive impact on me and I am so so happy we lived at the same time. Take care Ray! You da man

Many congratulations! In these days of mass production it means so much more to create or receive a hand crafted item made from natural substances. It shows the love and craft of the maker and the spirit of the material. May you both have many more happy anniversaries. Kind regards, Gordon

Having met you both, it was clear that you were meant to find each other. Congratulations on your 5th wedding anniversary.
PS – Ray, try not to let her put whatever it is you made through the dishwasher (again!) 😉
