Ray Mears on location in the Lake District
To those of you who have been eagerly awaiting the next episode of Wilderness Walks with Ray Mears, we would like to thank you for your ongoing patience. Episode five, which sees Ray travelling to Borrowdale in the Lake District, will be broadcast at 7:30 PM on Tuesday 23rd December, on ITV1.
In this episode, Ray uses the Derwent River as his guide to the breathtaking Borrowdale valley, a place of ancient rainforests and home to some very special wildlife, including peregrine falcons.
Ray visits a falcon site with National Park officer Peter Barron, who tells him how, after it became fashionable for rich people to own falcons, eggs were being stolen from nests. However, people from the area intervened to protect them. Peter says: “Local people have absolutely taken those birds and what was happening to them to their hearts. In a way, that persecution which was occurring actually prompted the local people to do something and watch them and be interested in them. So, maybe sometimes, good comes out of bad.”
The sixth and final episode of Wilderness Walks will be shown at 7:30 PM on Tuesday 30th December.
